Breast Surgery

Two common types of breast surgery are breast augmentation and breast reduction. Breast augmentation involves the use of breast implants to enhance the size of the breast. There are many reasons for undergoing such a procedure. It is used in cases where there is a deformity and reconstruction is required. Another use is for sex change patients. It is used to complete the transformation process. In most cases, however, it is done simply to increase breast size for women with small breasts.

Most common types of breast implants

The two most common types of breast implants are saline based and silicone gel based. There are other types available, but they are generally not as accepted as the first two choices.

Breast augmentation process

The breast augmentation process typically lasts one to two hours. The procedure involves incisions to insert the breast implants to the prescribed area. There is a recovery period after the surgery, typically lasting seven days. Scarring from the incision takes about a month to heal.

Complications for breast augmentation surgery

There are many possible complications for breast augmentation surgery. Some examples include changes in nipple sensation and breast feeding, the development of wrinkles or an unbalanced appearance. There have been concerns regarding silicone implants which are supposed to cause some diseases. Studies have shown, however, that there is no direct link between the two.

Breast reduction surgery

Breast reduction surgery is another type of breast surgery. It reduces the size of the breasts by removing parts of the skin and tissue surrounding it. It is also intended to reduce the effects of drooping. The procedure is mostly performed on women, though there are cases where men suffering from a condition where the mammary glands are enlarged so they avail of the procedure for aesthetic reasons.

Massive breast sizes

Typical patients that undergo this procedure do so to ease pain caused by massive breast sizes. Other reasons include easing discomfort related to brassieres and feelings of disproportion.
