Modern medicine has made it appear that it can do almost anything. From improving the appearance of a person to savings millions of lives, surgery has been a necessary procedure for treating many human conditions. It has even become possible for a person to change his gender or sex, depending on his preference and the choice of lifestyle. There are certain cases wherein a person born female, functions with a male perception of herself. Because of this, modern medicine can help her become a man.

There have been urban legends of a penis transplant, but no actual sources have verified if a female can have a penis if she chooses to undergo sex reassignment surgery.

Mastectomy, or surgical removal of breasts

A transman can simply reshape her body to resemble that of a male. This can be done through a mastectomy, or surgical removal of breasts. Transmen also have hysterectomies, or removal of the ovaries and female reproductive organs. A hormonal treatment with testosterone is given to facilitate in the transformation process.

If a woman decides to change herself into a man, so can the man choose to transform him into a complete woman. Modern times have made it possible for many people to be open about their sexuality and gender preference. Procedures for males are more intensive and expensive, but more and more men are turning to these surgeries as a chance for a new life.

This kind of sex reassignment involves surgeries such as transplanting ovaries and forming a fully sensate vagina which is called vaginoplasty. Colovaginoplasty, which is creating a vaginal lining from skin grafts from thighs or hips, or section of colon, is usually done when there is an extreme shortage of skin and the vaginoplasty has failed.

Transwoman can opt for facial feminization surgery

Aside from changes with the genital organs, a transwoman can opt for facial feminization surgery, wherein facial features are altered, including the reshaping of the jaw, cheekbones, eyebrows, and removal of the Adam’s apple. A transwoman can also have breast implants for a larger bust size, hip augmentation for a narrower pelvis, and voice feminization surgery. Hormonal treatments with estrogen are periodically done as well.

Male to Female Reassignment Surgery

These procedures generally fall under male feminization. Aside from the various surgeries mentioned above, there are even herbal remedies that can aid in the feminization process. There are also hundreds to thousands of internet resources that give information on these types of procedures. According to homosexual websites, for a person to undergo a complete sexual reassignment or transformation, he may need to pay $10,000 to over $20,000. These estimates do not include follow-up surgeries and hormonal treatments. Many of these surgeries are performed in Asian countries like Thailand, as the costs tend to be lower.
